CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, Mabch 13. (Before G. L. Lee and C. E, Blakiston, Esqs.) Drunkenness. —An inebriate for a first offence was fined ss, Vagrancy.— Minnie Edwards, Mary Weistead, Johannah Gallagher, Margaret Olarke, and Isabella Lockia were charged—two with keeping a bouse of ill-fame, and three with vagrancy. The evidence went to show that two of the prisoners lived in Colombo road and three in Lyttelton street; that their houses were the resort of prostitutes and thieves, and that they were a thorough nuisance to the neighbourhood. Edwards, Welstead, Gallagher, and Clark were each sentenced to six, and Leokie to three months’ imprisonment. Attempted Bueglaby.— Joseph Einley, on the application of Mr Inspector Buckley, was remanded until Friday. LYTTELTON. Tuesday, Maeoh 13, (Before H. R. Webb and J. T. Bouse, Esqs.) Lunacy from Deink.— -James Shelvey, on remand from Ashburton, was fined 40s and costs. Dbseetion. —John Gray, third officer of the ship Bangitiki, was charged with this offence, Mr H. N. Nalder "prosecuted on behalf of the New Zealand Shipping Company. Accused was sentenced to 12 weeks’ imprisonment with hard labour, his clothes and wages to be forfeited. EANQIOEA. Tuesday, Mabch 13. (Before C. Wbitefoord,E.M., A. H. Cunningham, and E L. Higgins, Esqs.) Abusive Language. —W. Gardiner was charged with using abusive and insulting language towards James Bassingtbwaite. The Bench considered the offence proved, and inflicted a fine of 10s and costs. Defendant was cautioned, and ordered to be bound over to keep the peace for six months in his own recognisance of £25. Neglecting to Keep a Light Bubning. —M B Thompkins was fined 6s and costs for neglecting to keep the lamp in front of his hotel burning during the hours prescribed by the Ordinance. Diseased Cattle Aor.—George Edward Sells was brought up, in custody, charged with a breach of this Act by driving cattle from an infeotad district into a clean district. Constable Dance, stationed at the Hurunui, said h? met prisoner at the Waipara on Sunday last, with 18 head of cattle, coming from the Cheviot direction. He told prisoner be should stop the cattle after the latter admitted they bad come from the Eaikoura. Witness placed a man in charge of the cattle, and told prisoner he would charge him with bringing Cattle from an infected district. He placed the cattle in a paddock near the Weka Pass, and asked the prisoner to accompany him to Leithfield. Prisoner made no objection to anything witness did. He merely said he did not think the cattle were infected, but the Kaikoura people would support him. By prisoner: You assisted me in every way with the cattle. You were driving the cattle over the back road. Sergeant Willis put in Gazette No. 12, 1865, containing the proclamation of the Kaikoura district being an Infected one under the Act. Prisoner, in answer to the charge, said, the cattle he was driving were not infected. He would apply to have the case adjourned for a week, to enable him to got a solicitor to conduct the case. His Worship adjourned the case for a week, and admitted prisoner to bail in bis own recognisance of £6° Obstructing tub Oxford Railway.— P. Connell was charged with driving over a crossing on the Ashley road when a train was approaching. It appeared from the evidence of the guard and driver, that the train had to be stopped to prevent an accident, and even then it was difficult to prevent a collision with the dray. The Bench inflicted a fine of 40s and costs. Civil Oases.— P. O’Shanassey vJ. Hood, claim £l6 81, judgment debt: order made for defendant to 'pay the amount in a month, or be imprisoned for six weeks.—John Jones v J. Look, claim £lB 10s; paid into Court £l7 17s 7d; judgment for plaintiff for £lB Is and costs. —B. Hale and H. Blackett, trustees in the estate of 0. Anderson, v E. Hanna and 00., claim £73 10»: adjourned for a week.—J. George v J. B. £l2 8s 8d: judgment for plaintiff.
