Lyttelton Times Office, Saturday Evening. Business in the import market during tho past week has been above the average. Transactions have not been confined to any particular line, but have been spread over a number of articles. Teas have been in good request at satisfactory rates. Advices from Foo Chow roach to Jan. 15, nt which date stocks of congou were reduced to 3000 chests of common grades, and tho season had virtually closed. Shipments to tho Colonies were only 600,0001b5, equal to 4 per cent, in excess ot those of the previous season, barely sufficient to cover tho increased cousumption. Sugars have been freely dealt in, and prices ore well sustained at, for finest whites, £3B to £4O; fine white crystals and counters, £3O to £3B; yellow crystals, £34 to £36 yellow counters, £3O to £33 i.b. Malt liqnors havo been much inquired after. Bass' bulk ale bos been quitted to arrive at £9los to £10; bottled ales have • mot with ready sale at 11s 3d to 12s; a Hoe of lude Coupe’s, now landing, has been placed at 11a Cd and 7a 9d tor quarts aud pints respectively. Htoutg are also in good request, especially pints of well known brands, which are scarce. Brandy in bulk remains unaltered, but iu face of the erhinced cost of Henncssy’s case goods, wo boar of sales at 57s 6d d.p,, which is actually less than it cm now be laid down for. Clouroau’s, Otc.rd’s, and Hisquit dn Honcho havo boon in fair inquiry by tbo trade. Whisky is firm, though we have no transactions to report. Swaino and Boord’s Old Tom, In bulk, has been placed at 4s 4d ; cases, at 14s i.b, Wolfe’s Schnapps now command22s 6d. Cornsacks—Large sales of Dundoo make are reported at 9s fld, but for ordinary parcels 9s 9d is obtainable, and 9* Od to los for Calcuttas. Kerosene—A parcel, ox Warwickshire, has been placed in trade lots a*. 3b 3d; the shipment# per William Cobb are expected i ext week. Galvanised Iron, G.O, brand, has been quilted at £3O 10s at railway station, which Is not equal to the rate ruling a fortnight ago. Tho usual demand for fencing wire, after shearing, has not yet set in, hut prices are firm, and stocks light. Dried fruits are exceedingly quiet, prices without alteration.
