CITY COUNCIL.
Thuesdat, Dec. 2. The Council held a special meeting at 10 a.m. Present—His Worship the Mayor, and all the Councillors. DSAINASE. The Mayor said it was best for the Council to deal first of all with the business for which the special meeting had been called. The Council would then take up the motion with regard to the widening of Colombo street, the discussion of which was adjourned from last Monday’s meeting. The minutes of the last special meeting, with reference to borrowing £9OOO for drainage purposes, were read and confirmed, and the public advertisement in the daily papers, giving the required notice, was also read. Councillor lok moved—" That this Council do now confirm resolution No. 2, agreed to by the Council at a special meeting held on the 3rd day of Nov. 1875, having reference to the borrowing of £9OOO for drainage purposes to be undertaken during the year.” Councillor Schmidt seconded the motion, which was agreed to. WIDENING COLOMBO STEEET, The Council then proceeded to consider the resolution of the Mayor re the widening of Colombo street. The Finance Committee recommended that private negotiations be opened with Mr Morten for the purchase of land for widening Colombo street; failing a satisfactory settlement, that the Land Clauses Act be put into force. Councillor Turner advocated the postpone ment of the question until Monday next, as he believed he would be prepared show from figures that it would be to interests of the ratepayers to acquire whole site.
