[By Teleghaph.] DUNEDIN JOCKEY CLUB SPRING MEETING. Fibst Day, Not. 30. After ten days of incessant rain, the morning broke beautifully. The boh, which had not been seen fora week, shone out brightly, and a cool North-east breeze made the weather lovely for pleasore-seekers. The day was a general holiday, and the bulk of the people attended the races. The course was in splendid order. The first event on the programme was the Maiden Plate of 40 sots ; one mile and a quarter. Bight entered, and seven came to the post. Pakeha was scratched. Mr J. Stephenson’s b c Steamer, 3 yrs, 7at 51bs„. 1 Mr A. Paterson’s Blue Peter, 4 yrs, Bst nils ... 2 Blue Peterand Steamer stood best in the betting, a good start was made, but after going a quarter of a mile Steamer and Blue Peter went ahead, the rest tailing off. Coming up the straight the second time Steamer pushed ahead and passed Peter fifty yards from the post, winning by half a length. Miss Norris, Mischief, Blair Athol, Miss Alfred, and Yoeman also ran. A good start was effected. Pertobe took the lead, and kept it for the first half-mile. Coming up the straight the first time the lot closed, and passed the post in a ruck, then Tun shot ahead with King Philip close on his quarters, Pertobe being third. This order was maintained till the second time coming up the straight, when King Philip challenged Tam, and a splendid race ensued; both flogging. After an exciting neok-and-neck race O’Brien landed Tam a winner by a head ; King Philip second, and Pertobe third. Time: 3min29|eec. Seizing Race. Mr D. J. J, Doyle’s g g Euclid, aged (to be sold £or £2O), 7st 71bs Won by Euclid, hands down. Time: 3minssec. Speing Handicap, of 50 sots.; one mde and a quarter. The winner of the St. Andrew’s Handicap to carry 7st extra. Mr A. Smith’s Wee Lad, 7st ~ Mr H. Yeend’s Eory O’More H Mr Paterson’s Blue Peter 0 After a lot of false starts the lot got away on OTon terms.
