TO THE EDITOE OF THE LYTTELTON TIMES. Sie,— ln your paper of the 20th inst., a letter of the usual portentous length appears from Mr John Jebson, in which he is good enough to animadvert on my “ignorance, vanity, and presumption” in postponing a Keeling which I had called. Unfortunately lor hira the postponed meeting (which was the largest yet held in the district) was more charitable, and unanimously passed a resolution approving of my action under the circumstances of the case; if he really thirsted lor information as to the cause of postponement, he could easily have obtained it at the time, and it would have been far better, instead of persisting in holding a meeting—onethird or one-fourth composed of his own family— to have waited the few days intervening between Tuesday and Saturday, when he would have received information which vould (possibly) have satisfied even him. Ho states that he was not aware ot the postponement, but a message was sent him, and two °1 his sons were in the hotel bar that morning ac d must have seen the notice. It is notorifjus that he was perfectly aware of the postponement before he came, and that he seized on the opportunity for gaining his end. Of the twenty persons whom he names as being present and has dubbed " householders,” only twelve are such, and I am informed scverul of those were there by accident or We re present but a few minutes.
