RANGIORA A PLOUGHING MATCH.
A public meeting of parsons interested in the carrying out of this annual match wag held at the Junction Hotel on Tuesday even* ing last. The object of the meeting being o£ considerable interest to the district, a larga attendance was expected, but as the annual meeting of the Literary Institute took place the same evening, the attendance was not so large as usual. Those present were Messrs Buss (chairman), Luxton, Lilly, Boyd, Smarts M'Oracken, Noble, Stephens, Dunlop, Bailey, Luxton, junr., Todd, and Burrell. Mr H. Boyd moved, “ That the annual ploughing match be held as usual.” Mr D. Todd seconded the motion, which was put and carried unanimously. The Tubasueue reported that the balancfl in hand after all the prizes and expenses con* nected with last year’s match had been paid, amounted to about £6. Since the match a sum of £lo—an old debt due to the committee —had been paid in, making the credit balance now in hand about £l6.
Subscription lists were handed round the room, and a fair amount was at once sub* scribed.
The following persons were then elected aa a working committee: —Messrs J, Lilly, J, Luxton, J. Smart, D. Todd, T. Noble, J. Scoon, J. Stalker, T. Stevens, J. Duff, W. Buss, H. Boyd, J. G. Bailey, D. MTntyre, F. M. Hickman, J. Johnston, and H. Hanna. It was resolved that five members of thg committee form a quorum. Mr W. Buss was unanimously elected as chairman of the committee.
Mr Smart moved —“ That the ploughing match take place on Thursday, July 3.” The motion was seconded by Mr G. Luxton, and carried.
On the motion of Mr J. Luxton, the following sub committee was appointed to secure a piece of land in as central a position as possible, and report at next meeting, viz.:—Messrs J. Smart, D. Todd, T. Noble, J. Scoon, J. Stalker, and the mover. Mr H. Boyd was re-elected secretary, and Mr J. Stalker was elected treasurer.
It was resolved that the secretary prepare a number of subscription lists and send them round to the members of committee and others.
The meeting then adjourned till Saturday evening next, to receive the report of the sub« committee appointed to select a suitable piece of land for the match.
