Tub barque John Knox, will clear the Customs this morning, and sail for Sydney in the course of the day. Peacock’s Wharf is now open for the transit of coal and grain. It would be a great improvement were arrangements made to allow colonial steamers and vessels to come alongside and discharge their cargoes. The J. B. Russell, schooner, well known in the Lyttelton trade, cleared the Customs at Lyttelton, for Auckland, on March 30, with a full cargo of grain. She sailed on March 31, and has not been heard of since. The 8.8. Keera, John Bain, commander, from Dunedin and intermediate ports, arrived here yesterday at 7.50 a.m. She cleared Otago heads at 11.15 p.m. on Saturday, and made the run to Timaru under canvas, arriving at 11.65 the following day; sailed again next day at 12.35 p.m., arriving at Akaroa at 12.10 a.m.; left again at 3.25 a.m., and arrived as above. Experienced fine weather throughout the passage. The p s, Comerang, Capt. Maillor, arrived in harbour yesterday, at 2.30 p.m. from Dunedin, via intermediate ports ; left Port Chalmers at noon on Sunday, and arrived at Timaru at 2.30 a.m. on Monday; discharged cargo, and left at 3.30 p.m., arriving at Akaroa at 6 a.m. yesterday ; left again at 9 a.m , and arrived as above. The Comerang proceeds to Napier this trip with cargo, and it is intended to run her on the East Coast during the winter. We are indebted to the Captain for files.
