STOCK REPORT.

The demand has been principally for fat wethers, but there has been no decided price fixed, buyers evidently being very doubtful of a certain market, and not wishing to risk much. Several sales have been made at prices which have not transpired, but probably below IBs per head, after shearing. One small lot of 2000, in close vicinity to Christchurch, and removable in small drafts, has been sold at 218, after shearing ; and one lot of 1000, in their wool, on the Rakaia, brought 24s for good sheep. Ewes are not talked of —a small lot of 200, very good, full-mouthed ewes, heavy in lamb, were sold for 20s. Very little inquiry for store wethers.

Fat cattle very scarce and high, quite 60s on the {.station; large buyers for Hokitika well supplied for some time, but Mr. Grigg's sale, at Burton's farm, is looked'to with interest by both butchers and dealers.

No adult store cattle for sale in the province ; of mixed lots there are a few offered at reasonable rates.

Two stations have been sold in Canterbury, both very good country, in quite different situations, and of quite different character —Major White's, at Oxford, with 2000 ewes, for £7200 ; and Messrs. Parkerson's (late Butler's), known as Mesopotamia, for £1*6,000 (we believe, but particulars have not transpired).

Business generally is dull, but stock and station property is much firmer, and more valuable than it was a short time ago.
