CHRISTCHURCH CITY COUNCIL.
In consequence of yesterday being a general holiday, the Council held a special meeting on Saturday last, at 3 p.m. The Chairman presided, several members being present. The following was the only business transacted. A letter from the Provincial Secretary, dated 6th February, asking the Council to grant the Government the use of a room for the reception of the books recently received from England, for the purpose of forming a law library was read. It was resolved that the Provincial Secretary be informed, in answer to his letter, that the upper room in the building used by the Council, the use of which is requested by the Government, is required for occupation by the Inspector of Nuisances, but that the Council have no objection to the books being temporarily placed in the chamber at present used by them to hold their meetings in, until the officials of the Supreme Court can make some other arrangement for the books in question, provided that such occupation does not interfere with the business of the Council. The Council then adjourned. LYTTELTON MUNICIPAL COUNCIL. The usual weekly meeting of the Council took place on Friday last. Present—All the members except Mr. Wright. Various letters were read and considered, and the following business transacted:— The Council intend to take immediate steps to make the Governor's Bay road to Rapaki. A resolution was carried to repair the engine house. Mr. Willcox's tender of £50 for assessing the Municipality was accepted. The Municipal Seal was affixed to several deeds prepared by the solicitor. A committee was appointed to report on the water supply of the town, and improving its sanitary state; the committee to consist of Messrs. Wood, Fyfe, Renshaw, and the Chairman. Advertisements were ordered to appear in the ' Times' and' Press ' newspapers for a Town Clerk for the Municipality at a salary of £150 per annum. Accounts amounting to £86 were ordered to be paid. The following notices of motion were given for consideration at the next meeting of the Council.— " That a sum not exceeding £70 be voted for erecting a parapet wall near to Sticking Point on the Sumner road." The Council to vote a sum not exceeding £50 towards the payment of erecting a stone culvert over the gully on Mr. Dransfield's section fronting London street. The Council then adjourned.
