LYTTELTON MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

The weekly sitting of the Council took place on members present except the Chairman and was called on to preside. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. The Committee for considering the Standing Orders brought np their report, which was read. Mr Macpherson proposed that the Standing Orders as revised should be received and adopted. The proposition was seconded by Mr. Renshaw, and was agreed to. The tenders for fitting up the room at the Town Tinll were opened. The following are the tendeis.— Messrs. Westall 50 0 0 At this stage of the proceedings Mr. Macpherson rose to ask on whose authority the Surveyor's Report, read last meeting, was published in the papers. He thought that unless the report was adopted it should not be published. The Surveyor informed the Council that he had supplied the report, and in doing so was carrying out the expressed wish of the Council to afford the reporters every information. The Council considered that it would be better for the future not to publish the reports unless they were adopted and entered on the minutes. / The part of the Surveyor's report referring to fencing the bathing place in Dampier's Bay was considered. . „ • ui. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr. Wright seconded by Mr. Ward, that Messrs. Grubb, Renshaw, and the Surveyor should examine and decide on the fencing required. The attention of the Inspector of Nuisances was directed to clause 67 of the Municipal Council Ordinance. On the motion of Mr. Macpherson, seconded by Mr. Ward, the Clerk was directed to prepare a statement of the probable revenue of the Municipal Council for the ensuing year. It was also resolved that the land on which the present Town Hall stands should be reserved from sale for the present. A committee, consisting of the Chairman, Messrs. Wright and Renshaw, was appointed to manage the municipal estate. The Council, after considerable discussion, decided to assess the property in the town without waiting for the Surveyor's report, and ordered tenders to be advertised for terms to complete the assessment •without delay. The subject of the desirability of increasing the hospital staff was introduced by Mr. Fyfe. The Council decided to supplement the Provincial Government grant by adding a sum of £25 for the next six months. Accounts amounting to £23 3s were ordered to be paid. The Council then adjourned.
