CHRISTCHURCH MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

Monday, July 7. The usual meeting of the above body was held on Monday evening; all the members present. Tenders for supplying horses ; and carts for the use of the Corporation were received from seven competitors. They ranged from 15s 6d for one horse cart and 19s 6d for two horse ditto, to 21s and 26s respectively. Woodman and Wright's tender at 20s and 25s was accepted. Five tenders were offered for forming and metalling Hereford street, ranging from £89 5s to £166195. The lowest tender (Felix McCann's) was accepted. It may be remarked that all the other tenders were nearly double the amount of this. Five tenders were offered for forming and metalling seven chains of Manchester street, ranging from £49 to £65. Frost and Jackson's tender at £52 5s was accepted. On the motion of Mr. Wilson, seconded by Mr. Alport, the Council resolved- "That this Council desires to record its appreciation of the services rendered to the city of Christchurch by the gentlemen who have acted as members of the Sanitary Commission, and of the able report presented by that commission, which the Council trusts will be productive of great ultimate advantage to the healthfullness and general welfare of the district." It was also agreed to pay all expenses incident to the commission, and two guineas per diem to each member present at its sittings. A committee, consisting of the Chairman, and Messrs Wilson and Gould, was appointed to consider the best means of; planting Oxford terrace from Hereford street to Montreal street, it being understood that the Provincial Government would supply the trees. It was determined to advertise for tenders to light all the bridges, and the sites of the Post-office and Hospital, by means of 15 lamps. On the motion of Mr. Wilson, seconded by Mr. Alport, a resolution was carried complaining of the neglected condition of the leading thoroughfares under the control of the Provincial Government, particularly of that part of the Ferry road between Barrett's Hotel and the Market place. The clerk was instructed to communicate this resolution to the Provincial Secretary.The Council then adjourned.
