GLENORCHY.

(LAKE COUNTY PRESS OOKKESPONDENT-) The fine winter weather of several weeks ago has changed to real winter • weather, and, as I am writing, it is snowing heavily, but it is seasonable and we should not complain. It tfill affect the rabbiters, who were making a haul with the exceptional high prices for skins. The scheelifce mining is at a standstill. There seems to be no price. From a circular received China can produce 90 per cent of the world's output. If this is correct, there is very poor prospect of it being worked here at a profit, a3 China will produce it very oheap. The Government bridge gang (who have just completed a much-needed whwf at Greenstone) arrived here on Friday to commence the erection of the Bees Valley Bridge. With the erection of this bridge and the formation of a motor road, I hear we are likely , to have a saw-milling industry started here If this is correct it will be a jboon to the Wakatipu district, as no

doubt timber will be delivered cheaper thau Southland timber, and it is of better quality as it has already proved itself. Some of the houses iq the district built over 00 years ago are still sound. The drawback of producing the timber of late years is the distance it if from the lake, but the motor lorry will be brought into use and no doubt carry it cheaper and quicker than the bullock teams.

Our N.Z. soldiers got great praise at the front for being brave heroes, ready to face anything and we are pleased to see them returning and settling down in their own country. One of our Glenorchy men, who returned some time ago, has recently taken unto himself a wife. The happy couple arrived home last Tuesday, and were accorded the usual reception in the evening, the tin-can land being in evidence. We wish the newly-wedded couple every success July 1, 1919
