OBITUARY.

Mrs Jane Theresa Mo Bride, A very old resident of Queenstown, in the person of Mrs June Theresa Mcßride, passed away late on Monday afternoon after an illness of short duration. Deceased lady, who was 7-i years of age, had not enjoyed the best of health for some considerable time, but her end caino in a rather unexpected manner (says the Lake Wakatip Mail). On Friday morning last the was seized with a paralytic stroke of sufficient seriousness to-preclude any hope being held out of ovou partial recovery, deceased lady lingering little more than three days. The news of her illness and death has come as a great shock to the community whore she was so well known and highly esteemed. Indeed, in days gune by no figure was moro familiar, no woman's name was held in greater respect. The late Mrs Mcßride was born in Larne, County Antrim, Ireland, and it is now 52 years since she loft her native laud for the purpose of joining her sister, the late Mrs McEwan, who, with her husband, had settled at Nokomai. When they decided to seek a fresh field in Queenstown, the late Mrs Mcßride accompanied them. Some little time after her advent here she was married to the late John Mcßride, who was a member of the, then, sawmilling and steamer company, Robertson and Co. Subsequently Mr and Mrs Mcßride took over from the late Mr and Mrs McEwan the Harp of Erin Hotel, better known in latter years as Mcßrido's Family Hotel. Mr Mcßride died some few years afterwards, but Mrs Mcßride remained in busine»3 until ten years ago, when she leased the hotel and retired into private life. Thus her interest in and ownership of the hotel covers a period of 47 years, something of a record. Deceased lady was a magnificent Btamp of a woman. She was particularly capable, wondrously bright, and possessed of very singutar charms. No more public-spirited citizen (as far as it lies in the power of a woman to qualify for that standing) has ever lived amongst us. In her day and °>eneiation her liberality and support of every worthy cause were proverbial. She was, indeed, a lady bountiful in all her deeds, and the friend of all those in need. Her name will ever be held in reverence wherever it is spoken of. Of a family of two children, a son, Mr J. C. Mcßride, of this town, survives. Mrs Fitzpatrick of Arthur's Point is a sister of deceased. The funeral, which took place in Queenstown yesterday, was largely attended. The burial service was conducted by the Rev. Father Corcoran.
