OBITUARY.

Mrs James Stevenson.

This week we have to record one af the saddest events that bas occurred in this district for many years. W# refer to the death of Mrs Stevenson, wife of Mr Jam6S Stevenson, Grown * Terrace, which took place somewhat suddenly at Mrs Birse's nursing home, Frankton, on Friday morning last. Deceased had given birth to a child on the Saturday previous, and appeared to be doing well, when she developed scarlet fever, to which she succumbed. The sad news came as a greet shock to her many friends, and the deepest sympathy was expressed for tbe sorrowing husband and relatives. Deceased lady, who was 40 years of age, was a native of tbe district, being a daughter of Mr and Mrs John Jenkins, Grown Terraoe. Of a cheerful and kindly disposition, she was esteemed and respected by all who knew her. Her husband is left with seven little ones (the oldest 14) to mourn tbe loss of an affectionate wife and mother. It is, indeed, a Bad loss. We tender our sympathy to the bereaved husband and relatives in their sore trial. The funeral took place at Arrowtown on Sunday, when a very large number of district residents attended to pay tbe last tribute of respect. Tbe burial service was conducted by the Rev. Mr Rattray,
