ARROW BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Council was held on Tuesday 1 evening last. Present—His Worship the Mayor (Mr T. Connor), Crs Jopp, Edwards, Romans, McSkimming, Pntaway, and McDowall. Clerk Lake County Council wrote stating lhat his Council could not accede to request to cut away corner at

time. - The Mayor said the footbridge had been repaired to some extent. It required re-decking, but he did not think the Council was in a position to pay its sha::e of the work at present. Although he did not think the bridge was ever intended for ) horse traffic, he thought to protect themselves, in case of accident, it would be advisable to put no;ices on each side of the bridge prohibiting horse traffic. It wa-s decided that notices be placed on each side prohibiting horse traffic. The Council unanimously decided to terminate the present arrangements regarding the Borough day and night work, and to invite applications for a man to devote his whole time to Borough work. The salary was fixed at £l5O per annum, the successful applicant to find horse and and harness, the Council providing drays. Councillors were unauimous3ly of opinion that this would be a more satisfactory arrangement, as under the present system casual labor cost the Council a considerable sum. Accounts amounting to £62 6s 8d were passed for payment, leaving a debit balance of £315 7s sd. This concluded the business.
