ARROW BOROUGH COUNCIL

The ordinary meeting was held on Tuesday evening last. Piesont— His Worship the Mayor ([[. McKibbin. Es.j), r. and Crs Romans, Cutter, Richardson, McSkiinming, and Prifcchard. P. M. Tobin, secretary L.C.J.C. wrote asking for the use of Recreation Ground seats on race-days. Granted. J. J. Cotter wrote resigning his position as Councillor owing to his intended departure from the district. Writer wished the Councillors a successful term of office. The Council regretted Cr Cotter's departure and wished him success in his new venture. The resignation was accepted with regret. Cr Cotter thanked the Councillors for their kind remarks. The Clerk was instructed to write thanking Mrs Wesley Turton for the donation of trees and shrubs. The Mayor said the fences in front of the Police quarters and Volunteer Hall •were in a dolapidated stato, and the Council decided to write to the authorities asking that repairs bo made to the fences. R. Allan, secretary for Southland Committee re New Zealand Exhibition wrote asking for a donation from tho Council towards tho cost of the Southland Court at the Exhibition.—Received. J. Orr, secretary local Presbyterian Ohnrch Committee, wrote applying for the use of the Hall on the I3lst October.— Granted. C. C. Ware, County Engineer, wrote saying the County scoops were some distance from Arrowtown, but perhaps the Council could obtain the uso of one from somo place nearer. There were two in the district. Ho would be pleased to wire for one of tho County if the Council desired it. — Held over. R. Pritchard wrote drawing tho Council's attention to the state of the crossing to his stables in Wiltshire Street. Since the culvert had been taken away the grade was too steep as well as dangerous. Writer asked that the crossing be improved. The matter was left in the hands of the Works Committee. Sir Joseph Waul wrote acknowledging the Council's letter, and thanked the Council for their hearty congratulations on his accession to the Premiorship.—Re- ' ceived. Miss V. Youngmaii, secretary Arrow Tennis Club wrote asking permission to form a tennis court on tho Recreation ground. —Granted. Accounts to the amount of £OS 2s 7d were passed for payment leaving a debit of £207 10s 2d.
