CANCER IN TROUT.
Several trout at tho Masterton hatcheries are suffering from cancerous growth, generally in the vicinity of the gills. It is believed to be due to tho fish not securing supplies of their natural food. The fish affected have been marked and special diet treatment tried, but, although they have been treated for throe months, there is no appreciable diffeience in tho growth which in some cases is ulcerated and sloughing. Mr Gilruth, chief veterinarian, is taking a good deal of interest in the matter. (This growth has been known for some years and was excellently illustrated in colors in a Government publication.)
