ARROW DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.

The local committee, at a special meeting hold last Thursday evening, recommended Miss Harriet Gow, M.A., for the position of special assistant in the Arrow District High School. Intending pupils will be notified as to place and time of opening. Tho school will bo opened as soon as possible after tho arrival of Miss Gow—probably in a few days' time. In addition to holding the degree of Master of Arts, Miss Gow is classified A3 on the list of New Zealand teachers. Several Professors of the New Zealand University have testified to her high attainments and her suitability to teach the higher subjects of education. Miss Gow served as. a pupil teacher in the Stirling Public School, and afterwards had charge of schools at Te Houka and Arthurton, besides attending the Normal Training Oollego and Otago University. Miss Gow also acted as extra assistant in the Balclutha District High School, and from all sources nothing but good is heard regarding her qualifications and adaptability for High School work. It is to be hoped that parents throughout the district will make every oflbrt to allow their children to gob the advantages now provided, and combine to strengthen an institution whoso want has been long felt. Boys and girls who have passed the Sixth Standard aro eligible, and no fees whatever aro payable. Children from thii district, may now, if they wish to do so, b'd worked up forj matriculation and Civil Service examinations (among othois) without being put to tho disadvantages of attending a High School in a distant centre.
