LAKE COUNTY A. & P. SOCIETY.

A meeting of the Executive Committee of the above socioty was held in tho Pbess office on Saturday last, Mr R. M. Paterson (vicepresident) being in tho chair. A letter was received from tho Department of Agriculture stating that there was no thoroughbred stallion available for the Wakatipu district this season. A letter was received from Mr W. Hume, saying that when he purchased his thorough* bred stallion it was before the Society had offered a bonus of £2O for an approved thoroughbred to travel the district. However, if the Society approved of his horse he would be pleased to receive the bonus. The selection committee was instructed to inspect the horse. The rising of the date of the show was held Mr Perrellc said it had been rumored that some of the district's people had imported seed potatoes. Tho Wakatipu grown potatoes was free from the blight, and it would be ruinous if the imported article were affectod with the disease. Perhaps the Society could induce farmers and others to refrain from importing seed potatoes. Several members were of the same opinion. It was a serious matter. Finally it was proposed by Mr G. D. Baird and seconded by Mr T. Houston, and carried unanimously—That the Society desires to .impress upon farmers and others the risk run by importing seed potatoes into the district on account of the prevalence of blight in many parts of the colony, and that farmers be asked to refrain from so doing. The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the chair.
