Terrible scones were witnessed at Ottajamo and other places nearest the volcano, which overwhelmed them with la'*a and debris. The position of the bodies recovered showed they had suffered great fear from death, tho faces retaining a look of terror. The last accounts stated that there were .110 dou-l bodies. Many of the injured together 200 were buried in tho ruins.
