Magistrate’s Court, Arrowtown. Tuksdw, Aimm 24. (B afore F. J. Burgess, Esq., S.M.), Throe local residents were charged with allowing horses and cattle to wander in the Borough, and were each fined ss, with costs 7s, William Jolly, was charged with, on the 3rd April, that, ho did cruelly ill-treat certain animals, to wit: two horses, by working thorn in harness, while suffering from sore shoulders. A second charge was also preferred against same defendant for a similar offence on the same day. Mr Evans (fur defendant) pleaded guilty. Defendant was anxious to clear bis property of noxious weeds, and had to work his horses. Defendant had taken every means to heal the wounds, and the Constable would bear out, the statement that tho wounds on the horses shoulders were now much better. Constable Emerson gave evidence of tho wounds on the horses’ shoulders varying from half-inch by half-inch to five inches by one inch. He had seen the horses since and the sores wore nearly all healed up. Defendant was taking stops to keep the ♦ horses’ shoulders free from sores. The Magistrate said the sores wore such hj at tho horses should never have been worked under any emergency. Defendant would ho fined 20s for each offence, with costs, 10s 9d on first charge only. Clyde, renewal wacor-race, commencing at a point about four miles from the Meg hub in Roaring Meg Crook, and terminating at head race, Cardrona. —Renewed for a further term of 15 years. A. Lafranchi, renewal of water-race license, commencing O’Oallaghan’s gully, and terminating same gully.—Struck out, no appearance of applicant, Criffel Lead Company, dam in Walsh’s Creek, Cardrona. —Adjourned. Premier Sunrise Coy., absolute surrender special quartz claim, Macetown.—Surrender accepted and license cancelled. Assessment Court. The Waitiri Dredging Coy. wrote objecting to tho valuation of their property. Mr Ware was present on behalf of tho County. Tho Magistrate confirmed tho assessment. Next Court day 29th May.
