DEERSTALKING AT HAWEA.

A number of tho deor-etalkers tiro now returning from the Lake Hawea district, says the Daily Times, and several of them passed through Oamaru on Saturday. They report a most successful trip, so far as trophies are concerned. Tho weather was very broken for about a week, snow and rain falling heavily, and frosts being very severe. Fortunately matters improved in time to onablo them to get away from their camps. Captain Power (of Queensland), Messrs* G. Laurenson, M.H.R., J. Forbes, and It. M. Men ton (of Christchurch), who .vent to Lake Hawca with Messrs Hodgkinson Bros., of Pukouri, secured 14 heads, including some excellent specimens. Captain Power's bag was two royals and an 11-pointer, one of tho royals being a beautiful head of live span and great length. Colonel Smithson and his wife, who went to the Lindis, secured five beads, including two royals, and Mr S. F. Smithson (Tiniaru) three heads, tho best being an 11-pointer. Mr J. 11. Bond, of Templeton, in company with Mr E. Hodgkinson, son., got a massive 15-pointer and a largo 13-pointor —two splendid trophies—on the Maitland Creek, Mr Hodgkinson securing a line 11pointer. The Rev. W. C. Olliver, Messrs E. Hardcastle and D. G. Smith did their stalking in tho Dingle, and wore very successful. Mr Olliver obtained four heads, including two royals, Mr Smith three, of which the beat was it 10-pointcr, and Mr Hardcastle a 14-pointer and a royal. The 14-pointer is exceptionally oven and very heavy in tho horn, and, though not tho greatest in length, is probably the most symmetrical specimen of a head carrying that number of points over shot in North Otago. Tho royal is exceptional in tho evenness of its [joints.
