The very sad news of the death of Mr Peter White, second son of Mr George White, of Lake Hayes, at Waihi on Wednesday last came as a shock to the residents of this district. We learn from the Waihi Telegraph the following particulars of the sad event:— "It is vzith very much regret that we have to record the death of Mr Peter White, whf?3l passed away suddenly at the hospital on Wednesday morning from a severe attack of erysipelas, having only been admitted to the institution on Tuesday evening. The deceased was well-known locally, and much respected by all who came in contact with him. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church choir, and his early and sudden demise is very much folt by all those connected with that church, as well as by a large circle of friends outside. We are sure that the sympathies; of a large number of friends here will go out to the relatives in their Bad bereavement. The funeral took place on Thursday afternoon and was very largely attended. The procession left the hospital at 2 o'clock for the Presbyterian Church, where a service oonducted by the Be v. J. L. Pattullo was held. The choir, of whioh deceased was an active member, sang " O, Lord, Our Help in Ages Past," as the coffin was borne into the church. The Bev. Mr Pattullo read the lesson, and gave a brief address appropriate to the sad oocasion,, and after the singing of the hymn '-Ever with the Lord," and prayer by Pastor Perry (Baptist), Miss' Newdiok, who presided atthe organ, played the Dead March in Saul. The coffin was literally covered with beautiful floral emblems, including one from the Presbyterian choir. The interment tookplaoeat the Waihi Cemetery, the Rev. Pattullo officiating." The late Mr White from his youth up to early manhood resided in this district, and was respected and esteemed by all. He took a keen interest in musical matters, and willingly gave his services for the benefit of any good cause. To lose one with promising years before him, is a sad blow indeed to his sorrowing relatives. We tender our deepest sympathy to Mr and. Mrs White: and family.
