ARROW BOROUGH COUNCIL.

An ordinary meeting of the above body was held in the Chambers ou Wednesday evening, the 27th May. Present —His Worship the Mayor (Mr L. H Preston), and Ors Stevenson, Perrelie, M'Skimming, and Grahsm. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Clerk of the Lake County Council wrote stating that the Engineer had been given instructions to supervise the work on Arrow Hospital Road. —lt was decided to ask the Engineer bo proceed at once with work. Messrs Kirkcaldy and M'George, mining engineers, Dunedin, wrote stating that they were prepared to do any work in their line should the Council require it.—Received. Under Secretary of Mines Department wrote acknowledging receipt cf statement of account of Arrow Domain and asking for short account of improvements done. —The information to be sent. Joseph Jenkins' application for renewal of slaughtering license was granted. Secretary of Agriculture wrote asking the Council to send a delegate to a conference, to be held at Invrrcurgill, for tho purpose of discussing the small bird nuisance, and rr> arrange as to the most suitable time for taking joint action for the destruction of small birds in each district.—lt was decided not to take action in the matter at present. St Paul's Church committee wrote asking tor a reduction of charges for lease of Hall for bazaars and social. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr M'Skimming—That the charge be reduced from £5 to £i. Or Stevenson proposed, as an amendment, seconded by Cr Perrellt—That fcho charge be reduced to £3. Tim amendment was carried. Mr Webb wrote enclosing sketch of lamp to be put in place of present Coronation lamp. Proposed by Or Pfrrelle, seconded by Or Stevenson —That the Mayor, and Ors M'Skimming, Stevenson, and Pnrrelle b>» appointed a sub-committee to deal with matter. —Carried. The Council resolved to sue Martin Houlihan for recovery of back arrears on land. It was decided to give Mr Reid final notice as to the trimming of trees overhanging road, otherwise Council

) would dc work and charge him for ■ smmp, Cr Stevenson brought up the matter ' of a reduction in the charge for the Hall for school social, but as no application had been made, it was decided to hold the matter over. Proposed by Or Perrelle seconded by Cr M'Skimming—That the Clerk be f instructed to write the Colonial | Secretary urging the necessity of . securing a mail to Arrowtown on • Saturdays.—Carried. Proposed by Cr Perrelle, seconded • by Or M'Skimming—That a special , vote of thanks be accorded the Mayor ■ for bringing matters of interest to the ! district beforo Sir J. G. Ward.— Carried. Accounts to the amount of £l3 18s 6d were passed for payment. A vote of thanks to the Chair closed the meeting.
