“ Here you are!" cried tin st eel fakir. ‘ A large assortment of useful, o munental, indispensable household ;utides, for the Btnalf Hum of nine remember—nine cents each—formerly were ten.” Gabrielie and Claude paused. “ Sec what a larps number of women have gathered around," she said. “ Women very seldom stand around street fakirs, you know. 1 wonder why they are so interested ?’’ “ I wonder why, now echoed Claude, sarcastically, ‘‘Only nine cents, remember!‘ continued the fakir. “ Only nine cents!" Gabrielie turned suddenly and impulsively. ‘■ ()n 1 v nine cents!” she exclaimed, ‘‘ Did you bear that, (’lamb* ? I must purchase one!" What are they be asked “ 1 don't know,’ she answered, “ but only nine cents ! Just think ! And 1 suppose the price has been cut down fiom ” Itut Claude, grasped her arm and escorted her, gently, hut firmly tlirough the crowded street.
