EMPIRE DAY.
On Saturday evening next at 8 o'clock it i» the intention of the Arrow Borough Council to give a display of fireworks on the Beach opposite the pound. Tho Council decided to hold the display on Saturday evening in consequence of the W.M.R. bill on Monday night. The
Council has a very lino collection of fireworks, and we advißo all and sundry not to miss the display. On Monday, Empire Day will be celebrated locally by the second competition for the champion belt presented by the lady frie»da of the W.M.R. In the evening the volunteer ball takes place. A very largo gathering is expected at this popular annual event. Tho Education Board has written bo the various school committees, at the request of the Government, notifying them thut Empire Day will bo a public school holiday, and suggesting that the scholars should meet iu the morning and salute the flag, when addresses of a national character may be delivered. The Board recommends that, so far as practicable, each committee should comply with the wishes of the Government in this matter, and so honor the memory of one who, during her long and illustrious reign, was beloved aliko by old and young.
