FOOTBALL.

The first match of the season between Arrow and Queenstown was played at Arrow town yesterday. The weather was perfect and a good game was witnessed by the spectators. Mr J. Reid Captained the local team and Mr C. Davis the Queenstownkes. Queenstown won the toss, and elected to play with the sun at their backs. The game was played in t«vo 35 minute spells. From the start it was fast, and the game right through whs- an exciting one. Towards the end of the first spell, after a series of scrams near the Queenstown line, the ball was passed out to Smith (Arrow) and he scored near the c >rner flag. Shortly after time was called, and the score stood Arrow 3 points, Queenstown nil. On resuming, play became very fast, each side making determined efforts to score. Some very good individual play in both teams was witnessed in this spell. For some time before the call of time Arrow kept the ball dangerously near the Queenstown line, but no further scoring took place. The game resulted in a ivin for Arrow by 3 j points to nil. This is the first match the Arrow players have ever won, and at the conclusion of the game they were congratulated on all' sides. Mr Cuff acted as referee, and Messrs Peirelle and Luckie as touchline umpires. The return match takes place at an early date. It has been decided to have a seevn aside tournament at an early date, open to all clubs.
