LONDON, September 5. Two aliens and one rebel, who were captured at Cambedoo, were executed at Colesberg. Scheeper’s commando are being hard pressed, and had to split, a part proceeding to Youws River and the remainder to Swellendam. Finding the Cape Dutch unresponsive and the country well garrisoned, the commando turned southwards from Swellendam. A native pointsman, who was suspected of treachery, derailed an armored train at Taxings. Three soldiers were killed and five others, besides an officer, injured. Lord Kitchener has permitted a number of the women refugees to depart with a view to convincing their husbands, who are on commando, of the hopelessness of their struggle. A Cape Police deserter has been sentenced to seven years’ hard labor for joining a commando when fighting outside Kimberley. The British casualties for the month of Aiurust numbered 1,790, including 1.387 invalided home, whereof 1.250 are expected to rejoin their colors.
