NEW GUINEA'S FUTURE.
SYDNEY, August 30. The Hon. G. R. Le Hunte, Lieutenant-Go-vernor of New Guinea, is visiting Sydney. He favorably views the prospects and possibilities of the possession. The revenue is increasing, trade and the gold output are steadily expanding, cultivation is spreading, and the natives are gradually replacing their savage customs with civilised ideas. The great drawback is the unwillingness to permit bona fide companies to take up large areas. If under the Commonwealth wiser counsels prevail industries will rapidly expand.
