DEATHS.

The cold arm of deith has been very much in evidence during the past week, carrying away with it no less than three persons. Firstly we refer to the early demise of Mrs Oldfield. Deceased lady had been suffering for a considerable period from cancer, and it was found necessary to perform an operation on account of the great pain the poor woman suffered latterly. The operation was successfully performed on Thursday, but being too weak to rally round, Mrs Oldtield never regained consciousness. Public sympathy is intense for the family, as this is their second bereavement within a space of 12 months. Deceased lady was only 47 years of age at the time of her death, and a resident of this district for the greater portion of that period. Those that were intimately acquainted with deceased speak volumes of her lady-like qualities and kindly disposition. Prior to the interment of the body in the locaL cemetery, a short service was held in the Church of England by the [lev. MiBrooke. A large number of friendi followed the remains to their last resting place.

A very old resident of Arrow—Mr John Flannery—died in the local hospital on Monday morning. He had been ailing for a very long time, and death was due to a general break-up of the system. "Okl Jack" as he was familiarly known, was a good natured and inoffensive poor, soul, and a favorite with all. The funeral took place on Tuesday, the service being conducted by the Rev. Father O'Donnell. Deceased was over GO years of age. The funeral of the late Wong Gongtook place on Saturday last. It was carried out in the usual Chinese custom.
