EDUCATION BOARD

The members in attendance at the last meeting were the Chairman (Mr P. B. Fraser) and Messrs Borne, Sim, Snow, Peattie, Nicolson, and Mar.-hall. The resignations accepted were:—Gerald Morris, head-teacher, Uuntroon ; W. W. Mackie, head-teacher, Waikoikoi; Mary Percy, head-teacher, Houipapa; Jemima M'Dougall, head-teacher, Taumata ; Jane Pilkington, head-teacher, Glenledi; Maud E. Dawson, mistress, Papakaio; Eliza G. Sherriff, fifth assistant, George street; Wm. Thompson, pupil-teacher, Mornington; Martha Ralston, pupil-teacher, Mornington ; Catherine S. Johnston, pupil-teacher, Alexandra. The appointments were as follow ; —W. W. Mackie, head-teacher, Clinton, vice Stewart, promoted; A. J. Ferguson, headteacher. Hawea, vice Renz transferred; Eliza G. Sherriff, mistiess, Arthur street, vice Hay left sendee; Maud E. Dawson, first assistant, Waikouaiti, vice Paterson left service. Accounts passed amounted to £5.697 14s Id. The Chairman brought up the new district high school regulations as drawn up by the Committee and embodying the Government regulations, and after consideration and amendment, they were adopted and ordered to come into force on the Ist September. Regulations drawn up to enable the Board to make use of the £2OO granted for the training of teachers in manual instruction were also submitted, considered, ana adopted. On the motion of the Chairman, it was resolved to obtain from Naseby the necessary information to send to the Minister as a prel minary to the erection of a district high school. Mr Sim asked whether the Government had paid over the extra grant for teachers’ salaries. The Chairman replied in the negative. Resolved to apply for the money as voted bv Parliament last year and due ki January. The Outran! Committee were granted pound for pound up to £25 for gymnastic apparatus, the Board having contributed nothing towards the cost of the building. It was decided to have plans prepared for a new class room for the junior standards at Tapanul, with the view of such room forming part of a new building. The appointment of permanent committees was then proceeded with.
