A Plucky ‘Woman,

Early on the morning of March 6rh, Mrs Macken, a resident of Lane Cove, Sydney, heard a noise in her dining-room, and having secured a revolver entered the room. A man seized her by the throat, but this did not prevent her firing a shot, whereon the intruder released his hold. There was vivid lightning at the time, and as it Sashed she fired five shots at the man as he dodged about the room. The burglar managed to escape, but in the morning blood stains could be traced from the verandah down to the river. All the silver had been packed ready for removal. Mr Macken was absent from home, and there was only a servant with Mrs Macken in the house.
