Cromwell Notes.

(lake county press correspondent). February 18 th. Pegging out new dredging claims, is no%v the order of the day here, and in connection with this, our old friend, former resident. Mr C. Colclough,

is I believe in Cromwell, representing some Mining Companb s, ami pegging out dredging Jaims. Fre long 1 hope to see both rivers shudder with dredges.

A first-class programme is published for our Orchestral Society’s Concert tomorrow night, and it is expected there will he a good attendance. The Society is deserving of patronage, as it has al ways been ready to assist any concert which it has been asked to attend, and it behoves the public to lend their support as far as possible to local institutions to enable them to flourish. I had the pleasure of hearing our Brass Band this week, and I must compliment the members on their improvement on a few months back. I hear the other bands which have entered for the contest are practising away assiduously—May the best band win. A sad incident happened last Friday morning. Mrs Graham, wife of MrT. Graham, lately of Cromwell, committed suicide by drowning herself in the Kawarau river. An inquest was held, of which Mr Bowie was foreman, and a verdict of insanity was returned. The Rev. Mr Gumming read the burial service.
