Social Functions in Honour of Retiring Town Clerk

The retiring town clerk of Queenstown, Mr C. M. Inglis, was guest of honour at a social gathering in the library last Thursday evening. The Mayor, members and staff of the borugh council, were present. The Mayor referred in complimentary terms to Mr Inglis’s long term of service as town clerk and his willingness at all times to serve the town in other capacities. All councillors present and the newly-appointed town clerk, Mr M. T. Robertson, spoke in eulogistic, strain and joined with the Mayor in wishing Mr Inglis a long and happy retirement. On behalf of the council and staff the Mayor presented Mr Inglis with an electric clock. Mr Inglis expressed his appreciation of the kindly sentiments voiced and expressed thanks for the gift. He.said that lie had always endeavoured to do his duty to the council and tlie ratepayers. He hoped that the same courtesy would be extended to his successor. Mrs B. Curtis and Mr and Mrs Alan Inglis were host and hostesses at a large gathering of friends of Mr and Mrs Inglis in the residence of Mrs Curtis, Park street, on Saturday night. The evening was pleasantly spent with music, story and games. Before supper Dr Anderson and several other speakers testified to the worth of Mr C. M. Inglis as a borough officer and citizen.
