A Poem, Fastened to Trees in the Portuguese Forests.
Ye who pas£ by and would raise your ‘ hand against me, hearken ere you harm me. I am the heat of your hearth on the cold winter nights, the friendly shade screening you from summer sun, and my fruits are refreshing draughts, quenching your thirst as you journey on. I am the beam that, holds your house) the Aboard of your, table, the bed on which you lie, the ' timber that builds your boat. . • ,' ; : / I am the handle of yqur hoe, the door of your homestead, the-. wood of your, cradle,-and the shell of , the your coffin. 1 am the bread of kindness and the’ flower of beauty. ,> Ye who pass by, listen.,to my prayer: . ' / ,-7^a4aide,3ulletim", • . . . !v ■■■:.- ’■ Her handbags are made in three : sizes —all with outside pockets to eliminate “fumbling.” The smallest size is for pa.i-ti.es, the next foy town wear yvith suits, and the largest for travel or shopping, is capacious enough for a , week-end visit—“ the bag for the business or career woman,” Mrs Winter calls it. The fact that the shoulder bag cannot be worn with a fur coat limits its usefulness. “ Except for special cases I think this ■ type is out,” Mrs Winter •says. She favours something the short, handle and tjie long strap.’?; “I thirik bfduses >re “being'Yery much neglected at present,” Mrs Winter says. “So often they, have- just ..pearl 9 r plastic, buttons. ■ pottery buttons would make: all the difference;”,, j Real porcelain buttons' are included in her fall collection for wearing with lighter materials. For tweeds there are crocodile buttons,- leather with qaddle .stitchihg,' half tjveedj and half leather; and kid. “ Nothing must be wasted these days,” Mrs Winter says. For holiday presents she has designed buttonholes- of artificial . flowers. These are presented in a small raffia flowerpot, which adds to theii charm. But this ill itself Qbjeeh ofutiKty.
