A big deputation from the Ne w Zealand Licensed Victuallers Association, and which claimed to have a representative from every electorate in the Dominion, waited on Mr Massey to ask that the present licensing law should remain unaltered, and urging the retention of the three-fifths majority on all issues, on the ground of safety, to secure " stability." A lengthy statement was read, with elaborated arguments against the 55 per cent and the bare majority. The Premier gave a non-bommittal reply. If any Bill were brought down it would not be a party measure. The Government's decision would be made in a few days.
