WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the above Council was held in the Chambers, Palmerston Buildings, Auckland on Friday last. Present: Ors Alex. Cochran (chairman), J. McLeod, V. F. Kerr.«,Taylor, H. H. Adams, M. Laing, F. Dye. W. MoCathie, J. H. O'Neill, F. Po^nton, H Day and J. Greenwood. Mr C. A. Cawkwell, County Clerk and Treasurer, and Mr. Geiald Jackson, County Engineer, were present. CORRESPONDENCE. ; A quantity of correspondence was dealt with, the following being of most interest to this district: From Mr C. A Cawkwell, desiring to acknowledge with sincere thanks the kind expression 3 of sympathy with him in his recent bereavement. The Council placed on record its sympathy with Mr Cawkwtll, as also Miss Byrne, his assistant, who had recently suffered the loss of a brother through drowning. E. C. Frost, stating lie was going to haul timber with his traction engine along the West Coast-road to Wai- - lnauku station, and was agreeable to repair all damage caused. Considerable repairs were needed through winter rains. Cr. Taylor raised the question of the long standing still unsettled courtcasp the Council had brought against Mr. Frost for past damage to the roads. Kerr-Taylor: What he offers to do is to repair the road at his mill, which is used entirely by himself. He suggested that the bye-laws relating to traction engines be procured from other counties to enable the framing of similar ones for Waitemata. Agreed to. Mr Frost also wrote stating he had a chaffcuttirig macliing lie wished to travel the country with. The Engineer reported several bridges were unfit to carry the engine, which weighs 9or 10 tons. Mr Frost should travel at his own risk. • It was decided to grant a permit for chaff-cutting machine only, provided that ail culvots and bridges damaged are to bo repaied, Cbas. Cr Keir-Taylor said he was waiting for the loan money, when some concrete bridges were to be erected, and the disusea timber fiom tho old structures would be used for a bridge across at the place men tinned. i Messrs S. J. Frost, W. J. Moore, ! and C. Ingram, wrote requesting that the dangerous corner on the Westcoast road be straightened. Stating there was grave danger through motor cars coming suddenly around corners, and accidents had happened. Cr. Kerr-Taylor mentioned that it would cost £100 to straighten the worst corner. He was waiting on the loan money. GEXEKAL LOANS. The Clerk reported that during the holidays he had got all preliminary matters arranged, and the first instalments "would soon be available.
