Oparau Dairy Company.
The following is the concluding portion of the annual meeting of shareholders of the Oparau Dairy Company. Mr Bell read the proposed alteration to Clause 10 of Articles of Association. —Upon the motion being put to the meeting, it was carried. The chairman then introduced Mr Dempster to the shareholders.
Mr Dempster congratulated them on the progress and soundness of the cempany. He did not know of one that had made so much progress during the past season. It must be also gratifying to all concerned that the quality of the butter manufactured had maintained a uniformly-higb standard —it being practically all first-graae. He was very pleased to see so many natives in the room, and mentioned the success of the Maoris at the Panama Exposition, where they had done so well, taking first honours in cheese and out-classing the world. The pakeha will have to “ look out ” or the Maoris would beat him. Continuing, the speaker con? gratulated the company upon adopting the policy of herdtesting, and advised all present to go in for it. Mr Dempster went on to explain the points of a good dairy bull, and told of the progress made by tlie Auckland province in butter production, the exports being more than the rest of the Dominion. Mr Dempster dealt at length with the suppliers’ responsibilities regarding care in milking and transport of cream, emphasising the importance of cooling the cream after separa.tion.
His address was both informative and interesting, and was listened to throughout with marked attention.
