QUESTION OF PLEBISCITE
GOVERNMENT AND GUARANTEED PRICE. An announcement that a plebiscite had not yet been decided upon was made by the Prime Minister, the Hon. M. J. Savage, when referring to the guaranteed price in a press interview. Mr. Savage warned farmers that unless they made clear immediately their attitude toward the guaranteed price the Government could not ignore the criticism of the scheme. He intimated that though hundreds of dairy-farmers had sent letters and telegrams to him he was not satisfied with the position. "Large numbers of communications have been received from farmers, and in view of that," said Mr. Savage, "we are holding over for the time being the question of a plebiscite, but unless a substantial number of farmers indicate what they really think of the matter a plebiscite will be inevitable. We must find out where we are in regard to the guaranteed price and the marketing scheme."
