VET. FOR TE KUITI

LONG-FELT WANT. DISCUSSION AT PIO PIO. LOSS OF STOCK INCREASING. The need for the appointment of a veterinary surgeon was stressed by Mr. Hegglin at the annual meeting of the Pio Pio Co-operative Dairy Company held on Saturday. The present stock inspector, although he did. all that could be expected of him, had no chance of coping with the amount of work, and what was required was a qualified veterinary surgeon in Te Kuiti, set up with full medicine supplies and equipment. The chairman of directors,' Mr. J. E. Trust, said that the need to have veterinary surgeons from Germany had been discussed at the South Auckland Dairy Conference, but the Morrinsville factory had been the only one to take up the matter. In this district a vet. was a long-felt want, and though the Board of Directors had as yet not seen their way clear to provide veterinary service for suppliers, it was likely that a Government subsidy might make the project possible. The loss of stock was getting worse every year, though, compared with that of the Waikato, it was low. Mr. Hegglin held that a veterinary surgeon should be provided by the Government.

Mr. Summers added that the matter might be worked in with other nearby companies in the same way as was dairy instruction.

Mr. Trust promised that the Board of Directors would go fully into this question.
