SNOW FALLS IN TE KUITI

FIRST OCCASION IN YEARS.

APPRECIABLE FALL. Snow fell in Te Kuiti this afternoon for the first time in years—the last fall being in mid-September, 1926, when the people woke to see the Waitete hills draped in a mantle of white which disappeared shortly after sunrise.

The fall to-day was not merely a mixture of rain and sleet. The fall was unaccompanied by rain, but dropped white from a dark cloud for about four minutes.

Though there was scarcely enough for the time-honoured sport of snowballing, residents collected handfuls of it before it melted. Snowballingdid ensue in Te Kuiti to-day, but the snow came off trucks which came from up the line where heavy falls occurred. Reports indicate that in many parts of the district snow has fallen.

The fall in Te Kuiti caused quite a stir amongst residents.
