GOLF CLUB OPEN DAY

o BAD WEATHER EXPERIENCED. TE AWAMUTU PLAYER WINS A GRADE. Although the bad weather halved the number of entries, the Te Kuiti Golf Club’s annual open day proved very successful. W. Ryan, of Te Awamutu, under extremely bad conditions, played a magnificent morning round of 76. In the afternoon his shots were not quite so confidently hit and he carded an 82, which allowed H. Ford, of the Matamata Club, who had a morningscore of 83, an excellent chance of catching him. Ford made a great effort and in spite of two missed putts from close to the hole, he returned a 76 to be runner-up to Ryan in the Waitomo Championship by one stroke.

The winner of the A grade 36-hole handicap match was A. L. Harkness, who followed up a steady morning round with an afternoon card three strokes better than par. The runnerup was W. Ryan. In the B grade the 36-hole net event went to a limit handicap player, R. Voyce, whose total of 139 was seven under par. The runner-up was C. Prescott with 143, a very consistent performance from one of the lower markers in this grade. Further competitions resulted as follows:—

Morning Bogey, A Grade: W. Ryan, runner-up N. Ormsby. Otorohanga B. Grade: C. Prescott, runner-up Cook (Te Awamutu). Afternoon Stableford, A Grade: A. Harkness. B Grade: R. Voyce.

In the Club's monthly medal match on Saturday A. Fleming netted a 71 off an 11 handicap, to win the trophy and earn a further handicap reduction to 10.

Next Saturday has been allotted to the second round of the championships. The following Saturday the Duff Cup will be played. Members select their own partners for four ball competition and should make their arrangements in the coming week-end.
