CENTENNIAL MEMORIAL
DECISION AT PIO PIO. DRAINING OF LAND. A meeting was. held in the Rest Room, Pio Pio, on the evening of Wednesday, 19th inst., to consider the question of a memorial to commemorate the Centennary. Various propositions were discussed, and the following resolution was finally passed:— "That the £25 suggested to be allocated by the Paemako Riding towards a Centennial Memorial be reallocated for the purpose of making a drain to the river in order to remove the flood facilitate the completion of stock road."
The local councillors were asked to concentrate on the drainage of the area in question, and promised to have the matter re-opened in Wellington when the County chairman would be in attendance on the Labour Department for assistance -to undertake a comprehensive scheme. It is hoped, that something will be definitely done. The Council approached the Minister of Labour some twelve months ago, and a promise was given that this work would be done by the Public Works Department at no cost to the Council . Up to date the Department has not been able to have the work carried out.
