The Bulgarian press hints at a German-sponsored formation of a new Balkan bloc led by Bulgaria and Yugoslavia, the basis of which will be the cession to Bulgaria of Macedonian territory which Yugoslavia acquired after the Great War.

Supplementary Estimates for the new Ministry of Supply total £144,350,000, and for the Royal Air Force £40,000,000. Ordinary receipts will yield £98,938,000 for the Ministry of Supply, and the remainder will be raised by loan.

The polish press records an apparent relaxation of tension throughout Europe, including Danzig, although it lays emphasis on the fact that nothing has happened fundamentally to ease the situation, says the Warsaw correspondent of the Times. To-day Germans realist that' they have no chance of a lightning victory, and they hope for an extension of "lebensraum" (living room) peacefully, but that hope is baseless.

A new Japanese threat to the rights of third Powers in China, which endangers the lives and property of nationals, has arisen as the result of a warning to evacuate Chuanchow, Tungshan and Chooksien. The Japanese Foreign Office spokesman says the ports will be closed by means of booms at 8 p.m. (local time) on Saturday.

There is real danger that the Japanese Government may be creating a Frankenstein monster capable of wrecking a reasonable settlement by the Tientsin conference by significantly refraining from officially disapproving of the spread of the antiBritish agitation, says the Tokio correspondent of the Times.

Reports from Gibraltar insist that the casualties in the powder magizine explosion at Penaranda de Bracamonte, Central Spain, were clue not so much to accident but to a revolt which was ruthlessly quelled.
