MANGAPEHI NOTES

(Own Correspondent). Miss J. Waldegrave, of Te Mapara, Pio Pio, has returned home after a short holiday spent in Mangapehi. Mr. D. Halcombe, of Pongakawa, Te Puke, is spending a fortnight’s holiday as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Halcombe, of Mangapehi. Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Buck, of Mangapehi, have returned home after spending a short holiday in Wellington and the Lower Hutt. While away they attended the golden wedding celebrations of some of the oldest residents of the Hutt Valley.

Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Barker and Miss Rosemary Barker, of Mangapehi, have been spending a few days in Palmerston North, where they attended the Sinclair-Hitchings wedding.

Mrs. A. Needham, of Mangapehi, will be the guest of her daughters and sons-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W. Flowers, of Te Puke, and Mr. and Mrs. P. Osborne, of Rotorua, for a month’s holiday. Mr. R. G. Inglis, Postmaster at Mangapehi, has returned after spending his annual leave visiting Wellington, Napier, Auckland and Coromandel. Flag 500 Evening. A very enjoyable Gag 500 evening was held under the auspices of the Mangapehi Anglican Church Committee on Saturday evening. There were nine tables, and the rapidity with which the travelling flag changed places, caused much amusement. After the last hand had beep played, and the flags at each table ccmnted, supper was served. , Table number 9 held the greatest number of flags—2o—the winners being Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Buck, Mr. Costello, and Mr. Buck. A special prize for the holder of the travellingflag was won by Mr. Hughes.
