Correspondence was received at the last meeting of the Otorohanga branch of the Farmers' Union regarding the suggested cull cow drive from that district to the freezing works. Members considered the scheme would not be worth while in such a district as Otorohanga, where long distances would have to be travelled. Such stock should be forwarded by rail. This brought up mention of stock drovers being forced to join a union. Mr. H. E. Walters said the district drovers had been told they would have to join a union, and every man who had a whip and dog would have to abide by the rules, one of which was that no man could drive more than 400 sheep. Only one man in Otorohanga was in favour of the union, and he suggested that the branch should supPort the drovers in their objections to being forced' to become members of a drovers' union. The chairman and Messrs. Walters, Simms and Strawbridge were appointed a committee to. confer with the local drovers.
