MATERNITY BENEFITS
PROFESSION S ATTITUDE. ALTERATION IN PROSPECT. DISCUSSION IN TARANAKI. There is a prospect of some alteration in the attitude of members of the British Medical Association towards the maternity benefits section of the social security scheme. The Taranaki division of the association is to meet at Stratford to-morrow to consider correspondence on the matter from the New Zealand branch.
No details of the proposition are available until divisions throughout the Dominion have considered it and communicated their views to the branch at Wellington, whence if necessary a statement will be issued within the next week or two. It is presumed the suggestion by the branch is of a different nature from that submitted to the Government some weeks ago for a grant to be made to maternity patients from social security funds rather than payment of, the practitioner by the Government.
There is a desire on the part of some medical practitioners, it is understood, for a prompt settlement of the points of difference between the Government and the British Medical Association.
