WINTER SHOW

MANY SPECIAL ATTRACTIONS. DISPLAY BY DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE. At a meeting of the general committee of the Te Kuiti and District Winter Show Association held in the Municipal Hall on Saturday evening, a report of the work being carried out by the executive for the forthcoming Show was placed before the committee.

Many new features have been incorporated this year and it is certain that these will attract many people to the Show. A display of special interest to farmers' has been arranged by the Department of Agriculture, and will include an exhibition of swede varieties and the effect of disease in swedes, a demonstration of manurial treatments and a display of a variety of turfs. Other new attractions will be a physical display by pupils of the District High School in the main hall each evening, and an exhibition of flowers by the W.D.F.U. The wool section this year is much more comprehensive than in previous years and arrangements have been made for a special display of wool and pelts. Keen contest is being shown in the Baby Show to be held on Saturday afternoon, while the members of the Te Kuiti Model Aeroplane Club are devoting much time and energy in making their display the most interesting ever to be shown. The Municipal Band, under the conductorship of Mr. R. D. Lee will play in the main hall each evening. Competition Arrangements.

This year it has been decided to divide each evening and the Saturday morning and afternoon competitions into sessions, and to hold four demonstration concerts on the Saturday evening. The charge for admission to all concerts will be reduced from Is to Gd.

During Thursday and Friday afternoons juvenile items will be judged. As each number will be heard several times it was felt these items would not appeal to the general public from an entertainment point of view, and it was resolved that in order that parents and others keenly interested in the children could be given the opportunity of - hearing these items no charge be made for admittance on these afternoons.

On Thursday evening two sessions will be held in which the programmes will include one-act plays, impromptu speeches and prepared speeches, The four programmes on Friday evening will comprise vocal items, choirs, recitations, and exhibition dancing. All day Saturday will be devoted to dancing with one session in the morning and two in the afternoon, and concerts featuring the winners in the various sections will comprise the evening’s entertainment. The Art Exhibition, an added attraction at the Show this year, will be held in the Fire Brigade rooms and the Council Chamber and will be open to the public throughout the Show. A telephone has been installed in the Show building and anyone wishing to communicate with the secretaries should ring 45.

Opening of Show

Word was reecived this afternoon by Mr. W. J. Broadfoot, M.P., that the Hon. Lee Martin, Minister of Agriculture, will open the Winter Show on Thursday afternoon.
