BEEF AT WESTFIELD
FIRM VALUES FOR OX. HEAVY COW AND HEIFER OFFERING. Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report that at their weekly Westfield stock sale on Wednesday, their offering of beef totalled 281 head, comprising 75 steers and 250 cows and heifers, compared with 160 head last week. Ox beef sold steadily on a par with last week, while an exceptionally heavy yarding of cows and heifers sold to a fair demand, values easing slightly. Quotations: Extra choice ox sold to 33s per 1001 b; choice and prime ox 30s to 325; secondary and plain 26s to 295; prime young cow and heifer beef 25s to 28s; ordinary cow beef 19s to 225; extra heavy prime steers £l3 to £l4 10s; heavy prime steers £l2 to £l2 15s; lighter prime steers £ll to £ll 15s; light prime steers £lO to £lO 15s; small and unfinished £6 10s to £9 10s; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers £9 9s to £lO 2s 6d; heavy prime £8 to £9 2s 6d; lighter prime £7 to £8; light prime £5 to £6 17s 6d; other killable cows £3 7s 6d to £5 10s.
