AMATEUR SPORTS CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING ADJOURNED. DISAPPOINTING ATTENDANCE. The poor attendance, the inability of those present to persuade Dr. L. R. de Castro to accept nomination for the presidency, and proposals for the reorganisation of the Club, resulted in the annual meeting of the Te Kuiti Amateur Athletic Sports Club, called for last evening in the Municipal Chambers, being adjourned to the middle of July. Not a single member of the general public was present at the meeting. The statement of accounts and the balance-sheet showed that the Club was on a very sound footing. After starting off the year with £B3 in hand, the club now held £232 in cash, and assets were conservatively valued at £4B. At the Easter sports meeting £202 was taken in gate money, and other receipts had also been satisfactory. Commenting on the balance-sheet the chairman, Dr. de Castro, said that the profit on the year’s operations exceeded expectations, though much of it was due to the Club’s special effort. The gear was in much better order now than in previous years.
An impasse resulted when Dr. de Castro was nominated again for the presidency. Members were unanimous that he should reaccept this office, but he was equally firm in his attitude that some other person should be appointed. During the discussion Mr. C. McCalman made the suggestion that an organiser should be appointed, and after consideration of this and other points it was decided that the meeting adjourn until the middle of July, and that a sub-committee be appointed to bring down proposals, if it thought desirable, to reorganise the Club. Messrs. J. G. McKenzie, M. J. Strange, C. McCalman, W: F. Seeker and K. W. Low were appointed the sub-commit-tee.
